Money and time might be running tight but you still want to do something for the world?
Fear not, the internet provides plenty of ways for you to give back for free and with minimum time investment, if any at all!
“Every good act is charity. A man’s true wealth hereafter is the true good that he does in this world to his fellows.” Molière.
time investment, if any at all!
1) Free Rice:
When you have a few spare minutes whilst procrastinating or while you’re procrastinating, play the vocabulary game at Free Rice and donate 10 grains of rice to the World Food Program for each correct answer. Spending ten minutes on here could provide someone with a meal.
2/3) Search Engines
Plant trees while you search the web. Ecosia is the search engine that plants trees with its ad revenue. By using Ecosia as your default search engine you can see how many trees you have planted on the home screen. The Unibox have reached 80 after just a week!
Lilo: By searching with Lilo, you finance, social and environmental projects and offsets the carbon emissions generated by your searches. Every time you search you earn a drop of water. Then choose which project will receive your drop of water.
4) Browse for a Cause:
By installing “Browse For A Cause”( a firefox plug-in) your computer will silently run the app in the background which monitors & donates a percentage of your daily purchases to charity. So when you’re surfing and spending on your favorite websites like Amazon, a small percentage (usually 3% to 5%) is donated entirely to a charity of your choice. Now you can reduce your guilt levels slightly after the next ASOS splurge.
5) UNV (UN volunteers):
This a great way to volunteer some of your spare time by helping nonprofits based on your interests and skills. Anything from basic graphic design to coding & copywriting. Like volunteering but you can do it with a hangover as you don’t need to even leave your bed. And it can be as much time as you wish, from 5 mins to on going work, it’s up to you.
