5 Steps to a Successful Mind-set to achieve your goals

There are certain universal contributors to being successful, a lot of which are very simple and only involve a small amount of tweaking of our mind-set in order to achieve our goals.

1) Swap the Short Term Mind-set for the Long Term

Ok so don’t ditch the short term altogether as these are key to achieving our long term goals. We just need to establish long term first and then use short term goals as achievable platforms to reach our end targets.

2) Act on things Immediately

Right guys this means no more excuses. We are all great at creating them and not only convincing others but also ourselves that they are valid, no more. We need to realise we are our own responsibility and no one else can achieve what we want for us. This also means coming to terms with failure. The fear of failure is often what excuses grow out of. Failure is a learning curve, “so if at first we don’t succeed, we try, try again”, “what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger”. What will happen next is both frightening and exciting but this is what we need to learn to embrace in order to best learn how to achieve our goals. Don’t be afraid to fail.

3) Stop Relying on what is Comfortable

Yes we all dream of overnight success, but it is uncommon if not a complete myth. (We won’t all win the X-factor, and even that takes work) It is the small actions and everyday achievements we make that increase our sights of the bigger picture. Try to plan the day ahead a day early. Focusing on what needs to be done in advance helps us visualise the end result and what steps need to be taken to get there faster. This leads us to routine.

4) Routine is your friend

Routine doesn’t have to be boring, in fact creating a routine that breaks up the monotony of your day can be quite the contrary. Consider placing exercise breaks into your daily routine. Exercise can be a great way to start your day and is statistically proven to enhance our work performance. Taking regular short breaks to achieve other small tasks is another ideal way to enhance performance as well as being a great boredom buster! So at lunch time tomorrow consider doing the dishes left over from last night. You will get a sense of accomplishment for doing it and it will also help to refocus your mind when you go back to the task (or studying) at hand.

5) Surround Yourself with Motivators

Inspire and be inspired by your friends.

In order to be successful it is important for us to be motivated, so if the people we spend the most time with are also motivated then we guarantee ourselves a support system as well as people to admire. This sounds pretty obvious but we are all guilty of being associating with individuals who really just aren’t that interested in our goals or how we get there. It is also important to remember to be a motivator to your friends and together you can be successful. Success needs help from time to time.
